Entering year 3 of the COVID-19 pandemic, my family continued to er on the side of caution - spacing out or avoiding many indoor events and creative outlets as we wait for a vaccine for our young (unvaccinated) sons. Furthermore, as I continue to work remotely, mostly on a screen, without as much face to face interaction as I would prefer, it’s been difficult to feel a sense of satisfaction after even the most productive day of work.

In an effort to add a greater sense of accomplishment to my days - preferably offscreen - I saved used cardboard boxes and cut them down into 5” x 7” canvases to provide a foundation for a daily creative meditation for the first 100 days of 2022. As I try to incorporate more sustainability into my practice, it was important for me to utilize paint and paper that I had on hand - sometimes incorporating what would have otherwise been discarded scraps of paper, foil, floral bouquet wraps, and more into that day’s meditation.

This mixed media series chronicles the seemingly silly: a dental appointment mantra - practice “butts” for a humorous collection of Valentine’s cards … to the more complex: the conflict (and fatigue) that is the ongoing struggle to balance life as a working mother juxtaposed against the unbridled joy that often exudes from my energetic three-year-old - as well as the reaction to the discourse around women’s rights in The United States.
